1. Willow Beach Campground

Located downstream of Little Rock on the Arkansas River, close to the David D. Terry Lock and Dam, this campsite provides ideal access to the plethora of recreational opportunities that the Arkansas River Valley has to offer. Campers can enjoy boating or fishing on the river or picnicking by the water’s edge. The campsite has 21 pitches with full water and electrical hookups, hot showers, and three picnic pavilions that can be reserved for day use.

2. Lake Sylvia

Nestled amongst the thickly forested mountains of the Ouachita National Forest less than 40 miles from Little Rock, Lake Sylvia is an ideal destination for boating and swimming in its tranquil waters. The recreation area also includes a network of trails around the lake, dotted with informative signs to help visitors learn about the natural flora and fauna of the lake and surrounding forest. The campsite includes 23 sites with full hookups for RVs and tents which are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

3. Bayou Bluff Recreation Area Campground

Located on the eastern tip of the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest, this recreation area is known for its breathtaking scenery and picturesque bluffs. The campsite is a little on the small side, and while it’s not suitable for RVs, it provides a welcome respite from some of the larger, busier sites for backpackers. Aside from the traditional campsites, the recreation area also includes three wooden shelters.

4. Lake Ouachita State Park

As the main state park on Lake Ouachita, this state park includes 93 sites, many of which are located right by the lake itself, which is perfect for swimming, scuba diving, or boating. 12 of the sites are walk-in tent sites, while the rest are suitable for both RVs and tents, with full hookups. The site also includes eight cabins that are available to rent, with fully equipped kitchens overlooking the lake.

5. Petit Jean State Park

Featuring 125 campgrounds, and less than an hour’s drive to the east of Little Rock, this state park is a classic, with natural beauty and brilliant facilities for the whole family to enjoy. These include a swimming pool, tennis, and basketball courts. The park also includes many rare geological formations to discover, including canyons, carpet rocks, and turtle rocks. All the campsites have electrical hookups; most are suitable for RVs and can be reserved online.
