Crain Ford of Little Rock

Aug 6, 2020

From groundbreaking history to eclectic cultural treasures, Little Rock, AR is not so little in popularity. In fact, it is one of the top US State Capitals to visit. What was once a small town is now a bustling tourist destination known for its southern hospitality and variety of unique attractions.

1. Little Rock Nine

Most notably, the thriving city is home of the “Little Rock Nine,” a group of African American teenagers who made civil rights history in 1957. During a time of segregation in schools, the “Little Rock Nine” paved the way for desegregation, even when met with an angry mob at the Little Rock Central High School. The high school is now a National Historic Site and was designated as such by another famous feature of Little Rock—President Bill Clinton.

2. Clinton Presidential Center

Before becoming the 42nd President of the United States, Bill Clinton served as Arkansas’s governor for 16 years and made Little Rock his home. Now, the Clinton Presidential Center stands as a testament to his time in the capital city and his time as president. The center features the Clinton Presidential Library, one of the largest archival collections in presidential history, and numerous educational exhibits.

3. The Old Mill

Straight out of Hollywood history, the Old Mill is a legendary site among movie buffs. It was built as an authentic recreation of an old water-powered mill in 1933 and was featured in the 1939 film Gone with the Wind. What’s more, it’s believed to be the last remaining structure from the movie.

The T.R. Pugh Memorial Park, in which the Old Mill sits, is itself worth visiting. Artist Senòr Dionico Rodriguez designed all of the sculptures, art, and even the footbridges seen throughout the park.

4. Billy Bass Adoption Center

If mounted singing fish are your thing, the Billy Bass Adoption Center is a must-see. It claims to be the first of its kind: a resting place for retired Big Mouth Billy Bass. People from all over bring their singing fish to the center to decorate the walls. Located in the Flying Fish restaurant, you can receive a free catfish dinner when you donate your fish,- and the restaurant promises to care for and love each of its adopted Billy Bass.
