Lake Maumelle Covering almost 9,000 acres of surface area, Lake Maumelle is one of the primary sources of drinking water for the city of Little Rock and other nearby towns. This artificial reservoir was created in the 1950s as a result of the construction of a dam across the nearby Big Maumelle River. Nowadays, this lake features around 70 miles of shoreline and has become a popular weekend destination for families from the area.
