1. The Engine Slowly Cranks When You Start the Motor
When you start your car, especially the first time of the day, pay attention to how the engine sounds when you start the motor. If it sounds like it’s straining or cranking a bit sluggishly, it might be a sign that it’s time to replace the battery. The engine may slowly crank if the weather is cold or the car hasn’t been used in a while. If this is the case, the problem should resolve itself in a little bit. If the engine continues to crank slowly, it could be a warning that your battery will soon fail.
2. Your Battery Warning Light Is On
Your battery warning light goes on when your car starts, but if it stays on or comes on while driving, it could be a sign your car needs a new battery. If the light goes on while driving, it’s a good idea to take it to a service center or dealership quickly. The light warns you the charging system isn’t functioning correctly. Once the battery fully discharges, the car engine will stop.
3. Your Lights Seem Dim

If you have a volt tester, you can check your battery’s voltage right at home. If you test your battery charge and its reading less than 75% or about a voltage of 12.45, then there is a very good chance your car battery needs to be replaced.

As mentioned earlier, a car battery will last three to five years in ideal conditions. When your battery is three years old, it’s a good idea to start checking it annually. You don’t need to make a special appointment to get your battery checked.
